Get into the swing!
From Uganda to Vietnam, the Spanish Costas, even Kazakhstan, golf is seen as an absolute must to lure international visitors. Not to be left out, North Cyprus has its own tournament standard course – the Korineum Golf & Country Club.
Opened in 2007, the 18-hole championship golf course is a dynamic 6,232 metres, 72 par gem, designed for golfers to enjoy mountain and seas view from each hole, making it a breathtaking experience.
One of the first things that strikes you is the vivid green hue of both the fairway and the greens, all immaculately maintained. The course is kept is this superb condition partly thanks to an abundant supply of desalinated water pumped up from the sea and contained in two large lakes sculpted into the course.
The club house, open to non-golfers, has been beautifully designed, cool, light and tasteful. There is a well-equipped pro-shop where one can hire shoes, clubs, trolleys and electric buggies and there is a nice selection of clothing. The clubhouse bar and fine dining restaurant has outside terraces with360 degree views.
The club caters for golfers of varying abilities. Beginners can take instruction at the separate Academy and driving range. As for the course itself, it has been designed for players of all standards and all ages with each hole having tees for championships, men’s, ladies and juniors.
The holes are crafted through the original umbrella pines and olive trees, with strategically placed bunkers and water hazards throughout to ensure a real challenge. Wide fairways allow you to stray a little from “straight down the middle.” Golfers say it has enormous visual appeal that draws you from one hole to the next.
The Resort is situated in Esentepe, east of Kyrenia, five miles from the turtle preservation beach of Alagadi. Korineum is a wildlife friendly area where the preservation of partridges, wild rabbits, foxes and different reptiles is encouraged. The area is a sanctuary for the endemic flora as well. Anemones, cyclamens, various kinds of rockroses, sage trees, thyme, olive trees, strawberry trees and carob trees can be enjoyed on your way around.
