Don’t stress out – stretch out!
Readers of these blogs will know that there are scores of sporting and leisure activities one can enjoy in North Cyprus – and that includes yoga.
These ancient mind and body exercises, originating in India, have become popular around the world, so much so, that the United Nations has declared World Yoga Day. Last week, on Midsummer’s Day, more than 100 people turned out to celebrate.
The event took place on Kervansaray Public Beach near Kyrenia, backed by the Girne Municipality. Yoga Instructor Naile Soyel (below) who practices the Jivamukti style of the discipline, led the performers.
She said: “On this day the world is celebrating the healing light of yoga. It was organised with the themes of living healthy, looking at life positively, and reconnecting with life. Yoga is not for only one day, but every day!
“The reason why all yogis around the world come together on this day is to honour the Cosmic Divine Light upon all of us, which is free for all beings and for every piece of Earth.
“May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all. So today and every day, let’s choose to be KIND in our thoughts, words and actions.”
With its natural beauty, pine forests, mountains and beaches, North Cyprus is an ideal destination for a yoga retreat and many are held throughout the year. Tour operators offer tailored trips for yoga lovers, with sessions held both in professional yoga studios, with new and fully equipped halls, and on the seashore.
It is also possible to take courses and training to become yoga teachers, yoga for children, an aerial yoga course, a yoga course for pregnant women, Thai massage training, and a course for trainers and organisers of yoga retreats.
